The history of the company can be traced back to the early 1990s when it existed as an informal enterprise engaged in the purchase, stockpiling, distribution and retail of general foodstuff particularly grains such as rice and maize. It later moved into the purchase of Shea Nuts after it was formally registered. In 2008 the company began the distribution of fertilizer in the then three Northern regions made up of Northern Region, Upper East Region and Upper West Region. Today the company is a household name in the Fertilizer distribution value chain as well as seed and fertilizer importer.
Intercontinental is now a major Stakeholder under the current Government flagship programme ‘Planting for Food and Jobs Campaign. Since its inception in 2017, the group and its subsidiaries have distributed more than Eight Hundred Thousand (800,000 MT) bags of fertilizer across all the regions of Ghana. The company also boasts about 9 warehouses in both Tema and Tamale with 200,000 MT storage capacity.
